Frogs stun Challengers 11-4

The Challengers' Playoff hopes received a damper as they got upset 11-4 by the Sissach Frogs in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader at the Heerenschürli.

Christian Klarer and Carlos Brito scattered seven hits and allowed a total of only four runs – two of them unearned.

Taylor Eichhorst led the offense with four hits, including his first double of the season, three runs scored and two stolen bases, Klarer added two RBI-singles, scored twice and also stole two bases, while Juan Guzman accounted for three of the Challengers' seven hits.

Tobias Siegrist, coming off his first career shutout last week against the Lucerne Eagles, gave up three singles and a base-on-balls in the first inning that gave the Frogs an early 4-0 lead.

The Challengers got one run back in the bottom half of the first on an unsuccessful pickoff attempt by Klarer, but that run got erased in the next inning on two more hits and an error.

In the fourth, the Challengers closed the gap to 5-3 as Guzman plated Carlos Nepomuceno and Harry Bregy with a single to left.

But the Frogs pulled away by scoring three more runs in the sixth and seventh innings, making Siegrist's day after seven innings.

Bregy came on to relieve, but quickly got tagged with three runs - two of them unearned - on three hits and a dropped third strike by Bryan Shemley.

The Challengers scored the final run in the bottom of the ninth on a mishandle by left fielder Cyrill Imhof.

Game notes
Bregy played his 300th game in the NLA.
