The 4th Annual Zürcher Frühlingsturnier took place at
the Sportanlage Heerenschürli in Schwamendingen
on March 27 and 28 1999 and was won for the first time by a team from
abroad.
The Tübingen Hawks
from the Premier German Bundesliga faced off against last year's winners,
the Swiss Champions Zürich Challengers
in the Finals. The Hawks advanced to the Finals by beating the Therwil
Flyers easily 15-2 and the Domstadt
Dodgers from the Fourth Royal Dutch Baseball Division 8-4. The Challengers
beat the Dodgers also 8-4 and the Dornbirn
Indians from the Premier Austrian Bundesliga 4-3 en route to their
third straight final at this tournament.
In the Finals, the Hawks took an early 2-0 lead, but
the Challengers went ahead on three runs in the second inning. The Hawks
tied the game in the top of the fourth and eventually beat the Challengers
on a three-run homer in the top of the sixth for the final score of 7-3.
