Barracudas win Softball-Derby

The Mother’s Day softball derby ended with a victory for the Zurich Barracudas, who wore pink as part of the Pink Ribbon campaign. The Challengers kept the game close for a long time before finally collapsing.

The game started promisingly for the visitors. Lara Müller brought home the first two runs with a two-run double in the first inning. Although the Barracudas took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the inning, Simona Cellar prevented further damage with an unassisted double play. The home team extended their lead to 4-2 in the second inning with a double steal, but the Challengers remained persistent. After a double by Carmen Lutz-Demetz, hits from Karen Hendren and Mia Matas cut the deficit to 3-4. Then, however, the game turned around. The Barracudas increased the pressure, while the Challengers could no longer mask their numerous absences. The home team used several wild pitches to extend their lead before Andrea Brändli stylishly ended the game with a 3-run home run over the fence in left field to make it 15-3.
