The Cadets made a strong showing this weekend winning their opening game 10-0 versus the Wil Devils and then winning the afternoon game 10-0 against the Huenenberg Unicorns.
In the first game the scoring started when Ryan Ciemny walked and then scored on an RBI single by Michael Iacono. In the second inning the Cadets bats exploded Alex Homburg singled and scored, Marcel Zuberbühler also singled and scored. Jake Namovich and Jake Tuckner both were walked and then got batted home on singles by Tobias Haynor, Ryan Ciemny, and Michael Iacono. In the third inning Tobias Bonger led off with a single followed by a double off the bat of Sebastian Bonger and both moved quickly around the bases to score. Haynor finished off the games scoring with an RBI double.
Namovich started and got the win with Seb Bonger closing out the game by striking out the side in the fourth inning.
In the second game against a strong Unicorns team the story line was the pitching as Ryan Ciemny and Iacono combined to strike out 11 of 16 batters that they faced.
The offensive punch was provided by Toby Haynor who went 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and scoring two runs, Seb Bonger was 2 for 3 with a double and 3 RBI’s and also scored a run. Michael Iacono scored 3 runs.
Overall it was a great day with surprisingly nice weather. We were glad to see some real break out performances at the plate this weekend with Alex Homburg going 2 for 4, Seb Bonger was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI’s, and Toby Haynor had the monster bat going 5 for 6 with a double and 4 RBI’s.
NLB-Team remains at .500
The NLB-Team split with the Sissach Frogs on Saturday, June 9. The Challengers posted a 10-8 victory in Game 1, while the Frogs took Game 2, as they cruised to a 9-1 win over the C’s. The Challengers remain at .500 with a 4-4 record.

The second Softball-Team, the SG Eagles/Challengers, lost twice against the Wil Devils on Saturday, June 9. The Devils posted a 23-0 shutout win in Game 1. Ellen Johnson had the only hit for the SG Eagles/Challengers. And the Devils added a 27-2 win in Game 2. Ellen Johnson and Meret Roth had one hit apiece, while Sarah Lechmann drove in a run for the SG Eagles/Challengers.

The Challengers/Truckstars Juniors won both games of a double header against the Cardinals/Frogs on June 9. The first game was won 5-2 and the second game was 11-3.
In the first game of the day all of the scoring was completed in the first inning of the game. Jake Tuckner walked and worked quickly around the bases scoring on a passed ball. Ivan Calcagna, Tobias Bonger and Julian Thomet all walked to load the bases. With the bases loaded, Nolan Thommen hit an RBI single scoring Calcagna, then Fabian Leonhardt walked to score Bonger. Ugo Tholome then hit a single to drive in Thomet, and Tuckner closed out the inning when he ripped a single to score Thommen.
For the rest of the game the Juveniles bats were quiet but Julian Thomet pitched 3 efficient innings giving up only two runs and Jake Tuckner closed out the last two innings striking out of 6 of 8 batters he faced.
The offense was more lively in the second game with Tuckner hitting an RBI Single and scoring 3 times. Jayfry Meier was 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and Theiler scored 2 runs as well. Calcagna, Bonger, Thommen, and Leonhardt all got in on the scoring act crossing the plate for one run each.
Cedric Theiler had his pitching debut giving up only one run in the first inning. Manabu Rohr then came in to pitch two good innings giving up only two runs. Jake Tuckner then closed the last two innings by striking out five.
Congratulations to the Juveniles who are now 4-0 on the season.
Softballerinnen empfangen Leader
Die Challengers haben ein volles Programm am Wochenende mit total 12 Spielen.
Den einzigen Heimauftritt haben die Softballerinnen, die am Sonntag, 10. Juni auf der Klopstockwiese den Leader Therwil Flyers empfangen. Im Vorjahr gewannen beide Teams je zweimal in der Regular Season, bevor die Flyers sich im Playoff-Halbfinal mit zwei Siegen durchsetzten. Die Spiele beginnen um 11.00 und 13.30 Uhr.
Das NLA-Team reist am Sonntag, 10. Juni nach Luzern, wo es gegen die Luzern Eagles und damit einige ehemalige Challengers antreten wird. Spielbeginn ist um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr in Reussbühl Hinterruopigen.
Das NLB-Team bestreitet seinen Doubleheader am Samstag, 9. Juni bei den Sissach Frogs. Die Spiele beginnen um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr in Sissach Tannbrunn.
Das zweite Softball-Team, die SG Eagles/Challengers, trifft am Samstag, 9. Juni auf die Wil Devils. Gespielt wird um 11.00 und 13.30 Uhr in Reussbühl Hinterruopigen.
Die U12- Juveniles der Dulliken TruckStar und der Challengers treffen am Samstag, 9. Juni auf die Spielgemeinschaft der Bern Cardinals/Sissach Frogs. Die Spiele finden um 11.00 und 13.30 Uhr in Dulliken Sportplatz Untere Ey statt.
Schliesslich treffen die U15-Cadets am Sonntag, 10. Juni in Hünenberg auf die Wil Devils und die Hünenberg Unicorns. Diese beiden Begegnungen sind gleichzeitig die letzten Einsätze von Headcoach Todd Tuckner, der in die USA zurückkehren wird. Spielbeginn ist um 12.30 und 15.00 Uhr in Hünenberg Wartstrasse.
2nd derby goes to the Barracudas
The Challengers saw their four-game winning streak halted, as the Barracudas took the Wednesday night game at the Heerenschürli ballpark posting a 6-2 victory over the C’s. Starter Tobias Siegrist had not enough support from his offense and the defense committed several costly errors, as the Barracudas scored three times in the fourth and seventh innings each. The Challengers scored their only two runs in the bottom of the second frame to cut the deficit to 2-3, as Robert Sedin and Bryan Shemley singled in one run apiece.
Kurt Kovac and Robert Sedin led the Challengers’ offense with two hits each, while Tobias Siegrist allowed six runs – only one of them earned – and seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work.
The C’s remain in fifth place with a 4-5 record. They will face next the Luzern Eagles on Sunday, June 10 at Reussbühl.
Night Game am Mittwoch
Die Challengers und die Barracudas bestreiten am Mittwoch, 6. Juni ein Night Game im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli. Es ist das zweite Aufeinandertreffen innert vier Tagen. Am Samstag wandelten die Challengers einen 1-5 Rückstand in einen 9-5 Sieg um und gewannen damit zum vierten Mal in Folge. Mit einem weiteren Erfolg könnten die Challengers den Stadtrivalen vom vierten Rang in der Tabelle verdrängen. Das Spiel beginnt um 19.00 Uhr.

The SG Eagles/Challengers lost twice to the first-placed Therwil Flyers on Sunday, June 3 at the Klopstockwiese. The Flyers jumped off to a good start, as they scored 14 runs in the first frame to put things out of reach and they added another seven in the second inning, as Lena Gfeller capped the inning with a three-run homer over the center field fence. The SG Eagles/Challengers managed to score in every inning, but eventually the Flyers posted a 24-8 victory.
Fabienne Baumgartner delivered two doubles and she and Anouk Lkharrazi reched base three times and scored two runs apiece, while Alexandra Meikle drew a walk and scored a run in her first career game.
Game 2 was all Flyers, as Kelsea Garthoff tossed a one-hit shutout with five strikeouts and the Flyers cruised to an easy 18-0 win. Carmela Sullivan had the only hit for the SG Eagles/Challengers, who will face the Wil Devils on Saturday, June 9 at Reussbühl.
