Eagles sweep Challengers 12-6, win 12th in a row

In game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader, the Challengers managed to score first and keep the game close for four innings, but the Reussbuhl Eagles prevailed again and won 12-6 for their 12th win this season.

The Challengers managed to get on the board first on two run-scoring ground outs by Patrick Zöllig and Patrick Bosshard, and starter Harry Bregy shut out the Eagles in the bottom half of the inning.

The Challengers then missed a great scoring opportunity in the top of the second inning as Eagle starter Eric Fehlmann escaped a bases-loaded jam by getting Manuel Schretzmann to ground out for the third out.

Fehlmann's offense then provided him with a huge cushion as they sent ten batters to the plate who scored seven times. Only three of those runs were earned.

The Challengers managed to come within two runs in the top of the third inning on Bosshard's RBI-single, and Willy Schaub's two-run double with the bases loaded.

It was Schaub's career-high third double of the year.

The Challengers even crept closer in the next inning, and trimmed the Eagles' lead to 7-6 by getting an unearned run on a run-scoring ground out by Zöllig off reliever Mano Steiner.

But the Eagles again went up 8-6 in the bottom of the fourth inning, and added three more in the fifth on solo homers by Alson Brooks and pinch-hitter Stephan Bhend, and a passed ball by Bosshard for an 11-6 lead.

The Challengers again were shut down after that, getting only one runner to first base - Zöllig's double in the seventh - in the last three innings.

While the Eagles remained unbeaten this season (12-0), the Challengers dropped their third game in a row, their longest losing streak this season.

The Challengers' last win against the Eagles dates back to April 19 1998, when they beat them 16-12.
