Challengers profit from 9 errors, win 10-7 to stay in 2nd place

The Challengers' NLB-team held on to 2nd place in the standings by beating the Romanshorn Submarines 10-7 on Sunday.

The game was marked by a total of 13 errors, nine by the Subs.

Both teams recorded 11 hits apiece, and the Subs had the big hits with two two-run homers and a double, whereas Tobias Siegrist was the only Challenger to get an extra-base hit with his double in the seventh inning.

The Challengers held on to a 5-2 lead after 2 1/2 innings, but the Subs got some big run support on two-run shots by Pascal Schiavo and Roger Hubschmid.

They managed to tie the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning on Christoph Rissi's RBI-single off Harry Bregy.

But the Challengers answered by scoring five times in the next two innings to pull away and blow the score open at 10-5.

Backed by that run-support, Bregy (5-1) secured the win by allowing just one more run in the seventh frame. He finished with six runs given up on nine hits and three walks, and striking out a season-high ten batters. With that performance, he earned his career-high fifth win of the season.

Siegrist relieved in the ninth and allowed one more run to score for the final score of 10-7.

Game notes: Patrick Bosshard went 2-for-6 and collected two RBI's to remain in the lead for best batting average at .442. ...Willy Schaub had a career-high three hits in four at-bats to propel his batting average to .324.
