Mustangs rally for 6-4 win over C’s

The Challengers didn't find the recipe for success against the Embrach Mustangs once more. The Mustangs rallied for four runs between the sixth and the eight innings to overtake the Challengers on the way to a 6-4 victory on Saturday, May 11 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. Starter Andrea Girasole allowed three runs – two earned – and five hits with two walks and one strikeout, but ended up with a no-decision, as the bullpen gave the lead away. Eidrys Reyes led the offense going 4-for-5 and scored a run. The second game of the day has been called in the second inning due to rain.

The Challengers will meet their cross-town rivals Zurich Barracudas for two night games on Tuesday, May 14 and Wednesday, May 15 at 7 pm at the Heerenschürli ballpark.

Challengers split with Eagles

One week after sweeping the Therwil Flyers the Challengers (3-1) split with the Luzern Eagles (1-5) on Saturday, May 4 at Reussbühl. The C's recorded their third win of the season, as they cruised to 14-2 victory in Game 1. But the Eagles had the better end in Game 2, as pitcher James Chapman kept the Challengers under control, as the Eagles posted a 4-2 win.

Challengers edge Flyers twice

Finally, also the Challengers started into the 2013 campaign on Sunday, April 28. And it was a successful start against the Therwil Flyers. After honorary member Enrico Zingg threw out the ceremonial first pitch, the C's built an early 5-0 lead in Game 1. The Flyers almost erased the deficit, as they came within one run in the eight inning, but the C's held on for a 6-5 victory. Starter Tobias Siegrist allowed two runs and eight hits with no walks while striking out six in seven innings for the win, while Eidrys Reyes led the offense going 3-for-3 with a walk.
In Game 2 the Challengers won a pitchers' duel in dramatic fashion. Flyers starter Josh Tamba carried a no-hitter into the eight inning, but it proved to be not enough, as the Challengers erased a three-run deficit by scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the eight to tie the game at 3-3. After the C's stranded the winning run on third base in the ninth, the Flyers broke the tie in the 10th frame by scoring the go-ahead run to make it 4-3. But the C's weren't done yet. Rob Sedin and Tobias Siegrist reached base and Jesus Martinez drove in Sedin to tie the game at 4-4. With no outs and runners on second and third the Flyers wanted to walk Francisco Colindres intentionally, but pitcher Adrian Kaufmann's fourth pitch was in reach for Colindres, who sent the ball to the right field wall for a walk-off RBI-single and a stunning 5-4 win. Robert Sedin tossed a six-hitter allowing four runs – three earned – and five walks with ten strikeouts.

The Challengers will travel to Luzern, where they will meet the Eagles on Sunday, May 4.
