The Challengers lost twice to the reigning Swiss champion Bern Cardinals on Sunday, August 21 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The Challengers erased a five-run deficit in the fifth frame and the offense exploded for 18 hits, still it was not enough to overcome the Cards, as the team from the capital city posted a wild 12-9 victory in Game 1. Yanik Probst went 3-for-5 and Carlos Pena, Carl Conway, Tobias Siegrist, Chris Palatinus and Jesus Martinez had two hits apiece.
Game 2 was all Cardinals, as they rolled to a 19-1 win over the C’s. The Challengers dropped to seventh place with a 9-15 record, but still can clinch a playoff spot with four wins in their last for games. The C’s will face next the Zurich Lions on Wednesday, August 24 for a night game at the Heerenschürli ballpark.
