Challengers 17, Hawks 9

The second game was less a contest than the first one as the Challengers scored 17 times on just 10 hits to down the Hawks 17-9 in a one-sided affair.

Rookie Patrick Bosshard went 3-for-4 with a homerun and two singles to raise his batting average to .500.
The Hawks were first to score again, but they managed to get just two runs off starter Roger Brunner.

Brunner was lifted after just 3.1 innings although he didn't pitch bad at all. He allowed two earned runs on two hits and two walks. Manager Marvin Moore wanted to have Thomas Landis (3-2) on the mound and he gave him the chance to earn his second win of the day. He got a big support from his offense and his win was never in danger although he gave up six earned runs on six hits and two bases-on-balls. He struck out four batters en route to his third win of the year and now has 40 K's in 26.2 innings of work.

Landis received the biggest ofensive support from Patrick Bosshard who went 3-for-4, including a two-run homer in the 3rd inning that put the Challengers up 6-1. Landis himself had two hits and collected three RBI's to give him a team-leading 10 for the season.

The Challengers got sloppy in the bottom of the seventh and allowed four runs by the Hawks on four hits.

The defense turned around 180° and committed only three errors all day after making 16 errors in last weekend's doubleheader against the Cardinals.

The Challengers remain in third place with a 6-4 record after the Eagles lost one game against the Cardinals.
