18th Zurich Spring Tournament

The traditional Zurich Spring Tournament will be also in 2015 the last test for the Zurich NLA-Teams before the start of the Swiss championship 2015. The tournament will take place on March 28 and 29 at the Heerenschürli ballpark in Zurich-Schwamendingen.
In addition to the hosting Zurich Barracudas and Zurich Challengers the Herrenberg Wanderers (German Verbandsliga) will participate at the 18th edition of the tournament. The starting grid will be completed by the Dominican All Stars, a team with a lot of well-known players from Latin America.
The games start on Saturday at 11am and on Sunday at 10am. The final will take place on Sunday at 2.30pm.

18. Zürcher Frühlingsturnier

Am 28. und 29. März 2015 findet das 18. Zürcher Baseball Frühlingsturnier statt. Das traditionelle Zürcher Frühlingsturnier wird auch 2015 der letzte Test vor dem Start zur Schweizer Meisterschaft für die Stadtzürcher Spitzenclubs sein.
Neben den beiden Gastgebern Zürich Barracudas und Zürich Challengers sind in diesem Jahr erstmals die Herrensberg Wanderers mit von der Partie. Die Baden-Württemberger spielen in der deutschen Verbandsliga. Komplettiert wird das Starterfeld durch die Dominican All Stars, die von in der Schweiz bekannten Spielern aus Lateinamerika gebildet werden.
Gespielt wird am Samstag ab 11.00 und Sonntag ab 10.00 Uhr. Das Finale findet am Sonntag um 14.30 Uhr statt.

Spring season started

The Challengers opened their spring season with two games against their cross-town rivals Zürich Barracudas on March 22 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. In the first game the NLB-Teams faced each other. The Barracudas rallied for a 4-3 win, after the C’s led through six innings thanks to solid pitching from starter Kurt Kovac and Willy Schaub.
In game 2 the NLA-Team started a little rusty, trailing 9-1 in the fifth frame. Then the C’s started to score some runs too to close the gap to two runs. Thomas Burger, James Sanders and Chris Palatinus had solid outings from the mound, while the defense committed some errors. The C’s will gain some more playing experience, as they will participate at the 18th Zurich Spring Tournament on March 28 and 29 at the Heerenschürli ballpark.

Juniors Indoor season ended in Rümlang

The Challengers Juniors played their last indoor tournament of the 2015 season on Saturday, March 21 at Rümlang. The U12-Juveniles and the U15-Cadets both finished in third place. The Juveniles improved a lot during the winter season finishing the tournament with a 1-2 record, after a 7-6 win over the Lions/Rainbows, a 5-7 loss to the Therwil Flyers and a 1-6 against the Rümlang Kobras.
The U15-Cadets played together with the Dulliken TruckStar and the Bern Cardinals. The SG lost to the Kobras and Thun Hunters, won against the Black Hawks and tied with the Flyers. In the game for third place the SG walked away with a last inning victory.
The outdoor season will start on April 26 for the U12-Juveniles and on May 17 for the U15-Cadets.

Cadets in Olten auf Rang 2

Die Challengers Junioren bestritten mit den TruckStar am Sonntag, 8. März deren Heimturnier in der Stadthalle in Olten. Die SG TruckStar/Challengers belegten in der Kategorie U12-Juveniles, deren Turnier am Vormittag ausgetragen wurde, den vierten Rang, während die U15-Cadets am Nachmittag mit Rang 2 glänzten. Die SG TruckStar/Challengers/Cardinals bezwang dabei die Unicorns/Eagles, die Thun Hunters und die Therwil Flyers und unterlag lediglich dem amtierenden Schweizer Meister Rümlang Kobras mit 3-5. Das nächste Hallenturnier findet am Sonntag, 15. März in Therwil statt.

Cadets finish 2nd at Olten

The Challengers Juniors played with the Dulliken TruckStar at their Indoor Tournament at the Stadthalle Olten on Sunday, March 8. The SG TruckStar/Challengers finished in fourth place in the U12-Juveniles category, that was played in the morning, while the U15-Cadets finished in second place with a 3-1 record in the afternoon. The SG TruckStar/Challengers/Cardinals beat the Unicorns/Eagles, the Thun Hunters and the Therwil Flyers and lost only to the reigning Swiss Champion Rümlang Kobras by a score of 3-5. The next indoor tournament will take place on Sunday, March 15 at Therwil.

Olten Indoor Tournament

For the Challengers U15-Cadets and U12-Juveniles the indoor season will continue on Sunday, March 8 at the Baseball Indoor Tournament Olten. The tournament organized by the Dulliken TruckStar will take place for the second time. The Juveniles will play the Hünenberg Unicorns, Rümlang Kobras and the Wittenbach Vikings from 8.30 am till noon. The Cadets tournament will last from 12.15 pm till 6.30 pm with the SG TruckStar/Challengers facing the Hünenberg Unicorns, Rümlang Kobras, Therwil Flyers and Thun Hunters.

Baseball Hallenturnier Olten

Für die U15-Cadets und die U12-Juveniles der Challengers geht die Hallensaison am Sonntag, 8. März mit dem Baseball Hallenturnier in Olten weiter. Das Heimturnier unseres Partnerteams TruckStar findet in diesem Jahr zum zweiten Mal statt. Die Juveniles spielen von 08.30 bis 12.00 Uhr. Gegner der SG TruckStar/Challengers sind die Hünenberg Unicorns, Rümlang Kobras und die Wittenbach Vikings. Das Turnier der Cadets dauert von 12.15 bis 18.30 Uhr, wobei die SG auf die Hünenberg Unicorns, Rümlang Kobras, Therwil Flyers und Thun Hunters.
