Am Donnerstag, 21. Juli kommt es im Heerenschürli zu einem weiteren Stadtderby gegen die Zürich Barracudas. Das Derby ist zugleich ein Duell um den vierten und letzten Playoffplatz. In den bisherigen drei Direktduellen blieben die Barracudas zweimal siegreich, während die Challengers nur einen Erfolg verbuchen konnten. Das Spiel beginnt um 19.00 Uhr.

Die Schweizer Nationalmannschaft der Baseballer bestreitet am Freitag, 22. Juli im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli ihr letztes Testspiel vor der EM gegen ein All Star Team. Spielbeginn ist um 19.00 Uhr.
Die Challengers Spieler Yanik Probst, Tobias Siegrist und Säntis Zeller wurden von Nationaltrainer Andy Fleischacker ins EM-Kader berufen. Im All Star Team, einer Auswahl der besten ausländischen Kräfte der Schweizer NLA, werden mit Fabio Aimi, Carl Conway, Patrick Maier, Jesus Martinez, Carlos Pena und James Sanders sechs weitere Challengers Akteure zum Einsatz kommen.
Am EM-Qualifier Turnier, das vom 25. bis 30. Juli im Olympiastadion Montjuic in Barcelona stattfinden wird, treffen die Schweizer auf Irland, Finnland, Spanien und Ungarn.
Challengers rained out again
The NLA game between the Challengers and the reigning Swiss champion Bern Cardinals was called after the second inning due to rain. The Cardinals were leading 3-0. The league already announced Sunday, August 21 as the make-up date.
The Challengers will face the Zurich Barracudas on Thursday, July 21 at the Heerenschürli ballpark for another night game.
NLB-Team lost to Bandits
The NLB-Team lost to the last placed Jona Bandits on Sunday, July 17 at Rapperswil-Jona. The rain cooled down the C’s offense, as they had only one hit, as the Bandits posted a 4-2 victory. Game 2 had to be postponed as the showers got heavier. With the loss the C’s dropped to fourth place with a 6-5 record.

Die Challengers empfangen am Sonntag, 17. Juli den amtierenden Schweizer Meister Bern Cardinals im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli. Die Zürcher werden gegen die zweitplatzierten Hauptstädter versuchen, den vierten Tabellenrang zu verteidigen. Die Spiele beginnen um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr.
Das NLB-Team reist am Sonntag, 17. Juli an den oberen Zürichsee, um gegen die Jona Bandits anzutreten. Gegen das Tabellenschlusslicht versuchen die Challengers mit zwei Erfolgen den Anschluss an die Topteams der Liga zu halten. Spielbeginn ist um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr in Rapperswil-Jona Lido.
Night Game abgesagt
Das NLA-Spiel zwischen den Challengers und den Zürich Lions vom Mittwoch, 13. Juli musste wegen heftigen Regenfällen abgesagt werden. Das Spiel wurde von der Liga auf den Mittwoch, 24. August 19.00 Uhr im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli neu angesetzt.
Die Challengers empfangen am Sonntag, 17. Juli die Bern Cardinals als nächsten Gegner auf dem Heerenschürli. Die Spiele beginnen um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr.
Softball Europacup abgesagt
Das European Cup Winners Cup Women B Turnier im französischen Lyon, das ursprünglich vom 15. bis 21. August hätte stattfinden sollen, musste mangels Teilnehmern abgesagt werden. Nach dem späten Rückzug des polnischen Vertreters und weiteren drei Absagen früher in der Saison, sah sich die ESF gezwungen, das Turnier abzusagen. Letztlich blieben nur noch drei Teilnehmer übrig.
Für die Challengers wäre es der vierte Auftritt auf internationalem Parkett gewesen, nachdem die Challengers 2006, 2007 und 2008 an Europacup-Turnieren teilgenommen hatten.
NLB-Team splits with Cardinals
The NLB-Team played against the first-placed Bern Cardinals on Sunday, July 10 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. After the Cardinals posted a 18-7 victory in Game 1, the Challengers answered with an impressive 22-6 win in Game 2. The C’s remain in third place with a 6-4 record.

The Softball-Team won twice against the second team of the Luzern Eagles on Saturday, July 9 at the Klopstockwiese to improve their record to 11-7. Leandra Simitovic tossed a one-hitter, as the Challengers cruised to a 15-0 shutout win in Game 1. The C’s built a 3-0 lead in the first inning, as Simona Cellar drove in Brigit Zuber and Rookie Sarah Lechmann delivered a two-run single.
The game was decided in the second frame, as the C’s sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 11 runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Celine Welti, to make it 14-0. Sophie Töpel opened the third inning with a single and later crossed the plate for a 15-0 mercy-rule win.
Sarah Lechmann had a game-high three RBI’s, while Leandra Simitovic, Brittany Howell, Simona Cellar and Celine Welti drove in two runs apiece.
The C’s extended their winning streak to five games, as they posted a 17-6 victory over the Eagles 2 in Game 2. The Eagles had the better start, scoring six runs in the first frame, as starter Andrea Wirth had problems finding the zone, but the Challengers’ bats took control, as they exploded for 11 hits, scoring 17 unanswered runs in three innings.
After cutting the deficit to two runs in the bottom of the first inning, as Simona Cellar hit a RBI-double and Sophie Töpel had a run-scoring single, Leandra Simitovic and Brittany Howell hit back-to-back doubles and Sarah Lechmann added a two-run single in the second to make it 7-6, before Nadja Critelli and Andrea Wirth had a RBI-single each.
But the C’s saved the best for last, as Leandra Simitovic belted a two-run homer over the left field fence in the third inning for a 17-6 win.
Simitovic recorded her sixth win of the season, as she pitched 3.1 hitless innings of relief, while Brigit Zuber, Simitovic and Howell scored three runs each.
Old Stars messen sich mit aktuellen Challengers
Am Montag, 11. Juli kommt es im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli zum Aufeinandertreffen von ehemaligen Grössen der Challengers gegen die aktuelle Mannschaft. Bei den Old Stars werden unter anderem Armin Blickenstorfer, Urs Blickenstorfer, Roger Brunner, Beat Eichenberger, Simon Hesse, Yves Huber, Jim Kaufmann, Thomas Landis, Nick Lehmann, David Luisi, Peter Luisi, Dario Rinaldi und Gustavo Salami im Heerenschürli auflaufen. Beginn ist um 19.00 Uhr.
