Challengers show no mercy in 19-4 rout of Rainbows

The Challengers continued where they left off in Game 1 to trash the Embrach Rainbows 19-4 in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader at the Heerenschürli.

<a href="http://www.challengers.ch/playerprofile/landis-thomas/?liga=NLA" title="See Player Profile for Thomas Landis">Thomas Landis</a> picked up his second win of the season.
Thomas Landis picked up his second win of the season.
Although the Rainbows managed to come back from a first-inning 3-1 deficit by scoring three runs in the top of the second frame, the Challengers couldn't be stopped that day.

They sent 12 batters to the plate in the second inning against three different Rainbow pitchers, scoring eight runs for an 11-4 lead after just two innings.

Tobias Siegrist, Harry Bregy and Kurt Kovac hit back-to-back-to-back doubles, Thomas Landis also added a double, and Anubis Benitez and Jose Valdez both singled.

Starter Landis (2-0) struggled early on as four of the seven first batters reached base in the first inning.

His defense also let him down in the second inning as shortstop Patrick Zöllig muffed a grounder to start the inning, and catcher Siegrist dropped a third strike three batters later that prolonged the inning.

Another blunder by first baseman Bregy enabled the Rainbows to take a temporary 4-3 lead by scoring three unearned runs.

But the Challengers answered with eight runs, later even extending that lead by scoring seven more in the sixth inning.

In the end, the Challengers outhit the Rainbows 16-6 to improve their season record to 5-1.
