Bregy pitched six strong innings, striking out five and keeping a clean score throughout the first four innings.

But so did his opponent Reto Siegel, who limited the Challengers' offense to six hits and handed them the first shutout since Alain Kurz did the trick in 1998.

The Flyers got on the board just after the momentum seemed to turn to the home team.

Bregy and his defense escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the fourth inning, but their next three batters got retired in order in the bottom half.

With one out and a runner on third in the next inning, player-coach Chris Palatinus signaled for an intentional walk to Daniel Eichenberger and set up for a possible double play.

But the Flyers' slugger lifted Bregy's first, bad-located delivery over the right-field fence for a double.

Flyers coach Bennet followed with a single to score Eichenberger, and after another run on catcher Nick Lehmann's throwing error, the guests were ahead by three.

While no Challenger ever reached third base and only two got as far as second, the Flyers added four more runs- all of them unearned - off Bregy in the sixth inning on a ground out and a homer.

Oliver Labhart made a fine relief appearance for the Challengers in the seventh inning by retiring the order with two strike outs and a ground out.

Game notes
The last time the Challengers were shut out was on July 26, 1998 in a 12-0 defeat also against the Flyers.
