Challengers outduel Mustangs, Savoldelli in 5-2 win

Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader lived up to the expectations as the second and third placed teams in the standings clashed.

Tobias Siegrist went the distance and scattered seven hits, leading to two runs by the Mustangs. In the end, he was credited with his team-leading fourth win of the season.

He also helped his own cause by going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring two runs.

Chris Palatinus collected a game-high three RBI's, and Carlos Peña contributed with two singles on his own.

Kevin Small was the lone Mustang with more than one hit, and Siegrist conceded just one base-on-balls and no hit-by-pitches.

The Mustangs' lead run in the first inning came in typical Mustangs fashion: Small singled, stole second and advanced to third on a ground out. Henry Swartz plated him with a soft single for a 1-0 lead.

It took the Challengers until the third inning for a response against Roger Savoldelli. Thanks to two errors and four hits, the Challengers came back with four runs to take control of the game.

Siegrist mowed down the opposition in the second, third and fourth innings, allowing only a walk and a single.

In the top of the fifth, another small-ball product led to the Mustangs' second run. With two outs, Harry Wischnewski singled, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball, and scored on Small's RBI-single.

The Challengers tacked on anonther run in the eighth on Palatinus' sacrifice fly to center, pushing the score to 5-2.

Another 1-2-3 inning by Siegrist in the final frame sealed the Challengers' victory.

Game notes
Siegrist's Game Score of 70 was his second-best outing of the season, trailing only June 12th's performance against the Lausanne Indians.
