Challengers rough up Frogs 14-4

The Challengers, in an unfamiliar spot as the underdogs, used a weak performance by Christian Klarer and upended the favorites 14-4.

Carlos Peña went yard twice and added a double, collecting a career-high five RBI's.

Jesus Martinez added three hits in four at-bats, and scored a game-high three runs, and Thomas Blank and Chris Palatinus also added three hits apiece.

Tobias Siegrist pitched his best game of the season in a complete game seven-hitter, striking out 10 batters and walking none.

The Frogs scored two runs in the first inning on a successful 1-3 double steal, and Alberto Santos scored on a fielding error by third baseman Saentis Zeller.

After that, Siegrist settled down and allowed just two more baserunners in the next three innings.

In the meantime, the Challengers scored five times through the fourth inning on two homers by Peña, two run-scoring hits by Blank and a sacrifice fly by Zeller.

In the top of the fifth, a throwing error and an RBI-double by Fabio Aimi pushed the score to 9-2 in favor of the Challengers.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Frogs got two runs back on a sac fly and a ground rule double by Klarer.

The score remained 9-4 from the sixth through the eighth innings as Siegrist continued to baffle the opposite batters with his pinpoint location.

Klarer was gone after five innings, and Mike Klee took over. After three scoreless inning, the Challengers mounted one more big attack, scoring five times in the ninth inning on two doubles, three singles and a sac fly for the final score of 14-4.

Game notes
Siegrist struck out for the 100th time in the NLA as he went down swinging in the third inning. He also collected his 200th strikeout as a pitcher when he rang up Tom Fink in the second frame.
