Barracudas upend Challengers 12-7

The Barracudas won the second straight night game against the Challengers by scoring early on and holding on to the end of the game.

They profited from six errors by the sloppy Challenger defense, with Thomas Blank committing four of them.

He somehow made up for those blunders by collecting a career-high five hits, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 16-hit attack by the Barracudas.

Nderim Coma homered in the sixth off reliever Carl Conway, and with Miguel Conde, Marcel Ochsner and Strahil Georgiev, three other Barracudas had three hits apiece.

After two scoreless innings, the Barracudas got to starter Tobias Siegrist in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs, two of them unearned.

The Challengers got back in the fourth inning and scored three runs on their own on an RBI-single by Jesus Martinez and a two-run single by Blank.

But the Barracudas added four more in the bottom half of the inning, scoring four times on four hits and two errors.

That made the day for Siegrist, ending his shortest outing as a starter since pitching only 2 2-3 innings against the Therwil Flyers on September 26, 2010.

The Challengers crept back and got within 8-7 in the top of the seventh inning, but the Barracudas added three more in the bottom of the seventh off Conway and Patrick Maier for an 11-7 lead to put the game away.

Game notes
Blank extended his streak to 10 games without scoring a run. ...Siegrist made his 1'400th appearance at the plate in the eighth inning and reached on an error by shortstop Colindres.
