Flyers dominate Challengers in 8-2 win

The Challengers weren't able to respond to Game 1's 12-1 blowout and had to take an 8-2 defeat in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader.

Lefty Hideori Oshima pitched four shutout innings for his fifth win this season, Chris Blackbee went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs as the Therwil Flyers solidified their hold on first place while the Challengers dropped to 9-13 on the season.

The Flyers profited from a shaky first inning by starter Patrick Maier, loading the bases with no outs on a hit-by-pitch, a single and a base-on-balls, and eventually scoring twice.

After that, Maier settled down and didn't allow a run through the next two innings.

His offense didn't bail him out as they were stunned by Oshima's pitches, and also getting picked off first base twice.

They added two more runs in the fourth on a double by Seppi Zwyer and three errors by a shaky Challenger defense.

The Challengers finally got on board against reliever Blackbee as James Sanders delievered an RBI-single, and Carl Conway hit an RBI-double, his first since Opening Day on April 2.

But the Flyers got two runs back on a sacrifice fly by J.B. Tucker off reliever Fabio Aimi and an RBI-single by Blackbee.

In the seventh, Hideori Oshima delievered a two-run single that extended the Flyers' lead to 8-2 and chased Aimi off the mound after 2 1-3 innings.

Game notes
Tobias Siegrist left the game after four innings with a mild groin injury. ...Thomas Blank played his 12th consecutive game without scoring a run. Ironically enough, he leads the team with 13 runs batted in.
