Cardinals trash Challengers 19-14

The Bern Cardinals swept their season series with the Challengers, getting a 19-1 win in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.

John Baum pitched a complete-game five-hitter, allowing just a single run, and also striking out five. He improved to 4-0 on the season.

Hitting standouts were Eduardo Villacis with a 3-for-4 performance, including his eighth double of the season to go along with five RBIs and three runs scored, Misael Guerrero with three hits and four RBIs, Johnny Perigo who was a perfect 3-for-3 with a game-high four runs scored, and Tobias Imboden who reached base four times with four singles.

Challengers starter Fabio Aimi lasted four innings, giving up eight runs - two of them unearned - on 12 hits and two walks, while also striking out one.

Reliever Patrick Maier lasted only two thirds of an inning, giving up four runs, and James Sanders pitched the final 1 1-3 innings, in which he gave up the final seven Cardinals runs.

Game notes
Jesus Martinez singled in the second inning in his 400th NLA plate appearance with the Challengers. ...The 22 hits allowed are the most since allowing 22 hits against the same Cardinals on September 7, 2003.
