Jones, Mustangs shut out Challengers 3-0

After getting just three hits in Game 1 of Sunday's season-opening doubleheader, the Challengers were again dominated by the Embrach Mustangs' pitching in a 3-0 shutout.

Tim Jones went eight innings in his debut in which he conceded only three hits and three walks, while also striking out 11.

Fabio Aimi's double in the second inning was the only extra-base hit for the Challengers.

Although the Mustangs also just got four hits off Aimi and reliever Thomas Burger, they profited from a passed ball and some costly errors to score their three runs.

Harry Wischnewki scored in the first inning on Tobias Siegrist's passed ball, and in the fifth inning, former Challenger Korey Kovac scored on Wischnewski's sac fly, and two errors in the infield brought home Carl Hutchinson with the third and final run.

Other than that, the pitching performances were flawless, and not many balls left the infield.

Jones' pitching performance earned him the top Game Score with 84.00, well ahead of Aimi's Game Score of 64.00.

Game notes
It's the first time since 2007 that the Challengers lost the season-opening doubleheader. That year, they lost 14-4 and 18-0 to the Bern Cardinals.
