Jones dominates Challengers in 5-2 win

Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader in Embrach was all Tim Jones.

Tim
Tim Jones tamed the Challengers in a complete game effort.
Jones dominated the Challengers' lineup from top to bottom and didn't allow a run in eight innings. He conceded three hits in those innings with Bryan Shemley hitting the only extra base hit as he lined one down the left field line.

Jones would complete the game allowing two earned runs on six hits and two walks while also striking out six.

Tobias Siegrist started on the mound for the Challengers but lasted only three innings in his shortest outing as a starter since September 26, 2010.

He would give up three runs - one of them unearned - on five hits, while striking out one, and that would be all Jones needed.

James Sanders came on and pitched three innings in relief, giving up only an unearned run on two hits while also striking out two.

In the seventh inning, Robert Sedin relieved Sanders and promptly conceded a run as Josh Crouse's RBI-single plated Harry Wischnewski who reached on a hit-by-pitch.

Shemley
Shemley delivers a double in the third inning.
Up until the ninth inning, Jones had allowed only four baserunners to reach past first base, but none of them came around.

In the final inning, Siegrist led off and reached safely as first baseman Roger Savoldelli muffed second baseman Stephan Pribitzer's throw.

Jones got Eidys Reyes to ground into a 5-4 fielder's choice, but Francisco Colindres followed with a screaming line drive over the left fielder's head for a double.

Jones then hit Zeller with a pitch to load the bases with just one out.

Substitute Jesus Martinez stepped to the plate and worked the count full by fouling off several pitches, but Jones eventually retired him on a change up down and in for the second out.

Harry Bregy finally broke up the shutout by hitting a two-run double to right center field, cutting the Mustangs' lead to 5-2.

With two runners in scoring position, Sanders sent a low line drive to the right side of the field, but second baseman Pribitzer dove for the ball and made a spectacular catch for the final out, ending a tension-filled final frame.
