Cardinals humiliate Challengers in 15-1 rout

The Challengers suffered their worst defeat in almost two years as they fell victim to the Bern Cardinals in a 15-1 defeat.

Never since a 19-1 loss against John Baum's Cardinals on August 21, 2011 did the Challengers experience a defeat like the one in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader in Bern.

Andrea Girasole started and faced 11 batters, managing to retire only one of them. He surrendered nine runs on five hits, two walks and three hit-by-pitches in his shortest outing of his career.

Ryan Byrne led all batters with a 3-for-4 performance, including four RBIs. Three other Cardinals added two hits each in a 13-hit attack.

Tobias Siegrist had two of three Challengers' hits. He also pitched two shutout innings in relief.

Game notes
Girasole's only out came on a successful 1-5-6 pickoff play that got Byrne trapped between second and third base. ...Eydris Reyes hit his team-leading fifth double of the season in the seventh inning.
