Cardinals profit from costly errors in 5-2 win

After suffering a bitter 15-1 defeat in Game 1, the Challengers were determined to get revenge in the second contest of Sunday's doubleheader in Bern.

Robert Sedin and Patrick Lawson delivered a fine pitching duel and settled for a 2-2 tie after five innings.

Ryan Byrne took over in the sixth inning, and in the bottom of the seventh, his offense profited from a costly error by third baseman Thomas Blank on a pop fly with two outs.

The next three batters singled off Sedin for a 5-2 lead.

All this happened after Byrne made a miraculous catch on Eydris Reyes' linedrive with the bases loaded in the top half of the inning, killing the Challengers' hopes for a possible win.

Coupled with the Embrach Mustangs' two wins against the Zurich Barracudas, the Challengers dropped to fourth place in the standings with their fourth straight loss, all against the Cardinals.

Game notes
Blank singled in the seventh inning in his 750th NLA plate appearance. ...The Challengers are 45-46 alltime against the Cardinals.
