Challengers sweep Devils with 15-6 win

The Challengers struggled early on, but then walked away with a convincing 15-6 win over the Wil Devils in Game 2 of Sunday's night doubleheader.

After being shut out in the first contest, the Devils came out more determined and scored two early runs off spot starter Eidrys Reyes in the first inning.

Reyes surrendered a double, a single and a hit-by-pitch in the opening frame, but settled down afterwards. After pitching a 1-2-3 second inning, the only runner he allowed in the third frame got erased on an unassisted double play by second baseman Francisco Colindres.

An RBI-double by Simeon was the last run Reyes gave up before being lifted for Thomas Burger to start the fifth inning.

Burger didn't find his groove and walked two batters, hit one with a pitch and also surrendered a single, forcing manager Chris Palatinus to take him out after just having faced six batters, and the Challengers' lead down to 6-4.

In came Robert Sedin to strike out Scheuber for the final out of the inning. He went on to pitch the remaining four innings, allowing two more runs on four hits and a hit-by-pitch, and also striking out nine batters to pick up his sixth win of the season.

Thomas Blank led the offense with four hits, including his fourth double of the season, Sedin added a double and two hits, Bryan Shemley had four hits in six at-bats, and Jesus Martinez collected a season-high four RBI.
