Challengers fall to Cardinals 11-4, trail 2-1 in Series

After losing to Patrick Lawson in Game 2 of the Best-of-5 Semifinal Series on Saturday, the Challengers found no recipe against Tobias Imboden and Ryan Byrne, losing 11-4 in Game 3 on Sunday.

A big 7-run fourth inning blew the game wide open. The Cardinals sent 11 batters to the plate, getting six hits and two walks off Tobias Siegrist.

This all came after Imboden hit Siegrist with a pitch on his throwing elbow in the top of the third inning.

This incident clearly affected the way Siegrist pitched afterwards, and he couldn't come back for the fifth inning.

Instead, coach Chris Palatinus summoned Andrea Girasole from the bullpen, letting him pitch the final four innings. Girasole scattered eight hits and gave up just one earned run.

Six Cardinal hitters had at least two hits while Robert Sedin was the only Challenger with two hits, getting outhit 18-8 for the game.

Game notes
Siegrist grounded into a 6-4 fielder's choice in the fifth inning in his 1'400th NLA at-bat. His Game Score of 9 is the lowest since scoring a -15 on April 10, 2011, also against the Cardinals. ...Zeller grounded out to shortstop in his 100th at-bat of the season, reaching that plateau only for the second time in his career.
