Challengers dominate Devils in 8-1 win

The Challengers scored early and didn't let the Wil Devils get into the game at any point, cruising to an easy 8-1 win in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.

Reyes prepares himself to take a ground ball.
Thomas Burger started on the hill for the Challengers and went 5 innings for his first win of the season and his first since May 7, 2011, allowing a single earned run on four hits and two walks, while also striking out four.

Robert Sedin and Tobias Siegrist both went 2-for-4, while Eidrys Reyes had a game-high 3 hits, and both Thomas Blank and Bryan Shemley led all Challengers with 2 RBIs apiece.

Staked to a 6-0 lead after three innings, Burger ran into trouble only once as he gave up Ursin Simeon's RBI-single for the Devils' first and only run.

Harry Bregy relieved Burger in the top of the sixth and threw three scoreless innings, and Siegrist closed it out with a perfect 1-2-3 ninth.

Game notes
Burger picked up his first win as a starter since April 18, 2009, an 11-1 win against the Reussbuhl Eagles. It was his 50th game started in the NLA (third all-time). ...Zeller's at-bat to start off the game with a fly ball to center was his 1'100th plate appearance in the NLA, fourth on the Challengers' all-time list.
