Cardinals walk off 8-7 on error in season opener

After five straight losses to the Challengers in 2014, they took some revenge and took the season opener on an 8-7 walk off win.

With runners on first and second, reliever Chris Palatinus threw away Tobias Imboden's sac bunt, enabling Johnny Perigo to score from second base for the winning run.

Just before that, Tobias Siegrist tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the ninth thanks to a two-run homer to right.

Three Challengers – Siegrist, Saentis Zeller and Chico Colindres – got three hits each, but the Cards outhit their opponents 15-14.

In the third inning, Saentis Zeller broke a scoreless tie by hitting an RBI-single to left, but the Cardinals came right back with three runs to take a 3-1 lead.

The Challengers reclaimed the lead at 5-3 by scoring four times off Imboden on Siegrist's RBI-double and RBI-singles by Jesus Martinez, Gabriel Holguin and Harry Bregy.

Menawhile, starter Siegrist kept the Cardinals in check by retiring 9 of 10 batters he faced in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

In the sixth, Edwin Hernandez' RBI-single cut the Challengers' lead to 5-4, and in the eighth, they went ahead 7-5 by getting three runs on a wild pitch and back-to-back RBI-singles by Steven McIntosh and Thierry Burkhardt.

Game notes
Siegrist's homer was his first since Aug. 19, 2012 against the Lucerne Eagles.
