Siegrist shuts down Eagles in 11-0 win

Tobias Siegrist earned his first career shutout in the NLA, and his offense provided him with enough spark to end the game after seven innings based on the mercy rule for an 11-0 win in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Lucerne Eagles.

The Eagles had only one baserunner reach third base as Michael Settle advanced to third on Rob Sedin's passed ball in the first inning. After that, Siegrist retired the next nine batters before issuing a base-on-balls to Tom Enz in the fourth inning.

The Eagles went hitless through the first 6 2-3 innings, before Yanik Probst and Oli Holenstein hit back-to-back singles. But Siegrist got former Challenger Patrick Maier to strike out swinging to end the game.

He finished with two hits and three walks allowed, while also striking out six for just his second win of the season.

Sedin led all batters by reaching base in all four of his appearances on three singles and a hit-by-pitch. Player coach Clayton Carson had the only extra-base hit of the game with his first homer in Challenger blue, and both Saentis Zeller and Francisco Colindres contributed with two hits each in a 12-hit showing.

National Team pitcher Andrea Girasole took the loss as he didn't survive the third inning, allowing nine runs on nine hits and three walks in just 2 2-3 innings.

Game notes
Siegrist's win was his 30th in the NLA in his 50th start in his 100th games in the NLA. His 12th complete game ties him with Sedin at 12 for 6th place on the Challengers all-time list. The last time Siegrist allowed one run or less in a complete game effort was against the Lausanne Indians on Jun. 12, 2010 when he allowed one unearned run in seven innings. …Bryan Shemley passed Anubis Benitez for 6th place on the all-time list for plate appearances with number 1'025 in the seventh inning.
