Eagles edge Challengers 8-5

The Lucerne Eagles salvaged a split in Sunday's doubleheader against the Challengers with an 8-5 win in Game 2.

They scored early and withstood a late rally for their seventh win of the season, with Adam Greenberg getting his second win by pitching eight solid innings.

His offense staked him to a 5-0 lead after three innings off starter Clayton Carson, who hit three batters which all eventually scored in those first three innings.

Carson went on to pitch three scoreless innings, but his offense couldn't get it going until late in the game.

They scored three times in the top of the sixth thanks to Bryan Shemley's two-out three-run shot and two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings.

But reliever Rob Sedin conceded two runs in the seventh and gave up Greenberg's solo homer in the eighth, his second of the season, to put the game out of reach.

Michael Settle pitched the ninth for his first save of the season.

Carson led all players with three hits in five at-bats, and Shemley contributed four RBIs in a losing cause.

Game notes
Shemley's homer was his first ever in the wooden bat era and his first since Apr. 16, 2000 in a 35-7 win against the Bern Cardinals. His four RBIs are also second to his five RBIs in that same game against the Cardinals.
