Flyers embarass Challengers in 20-0 win

The Challengers suffered one of their worst losses in franchise history as they got roughed up by the Therwil Flyers 20-0 in five innings in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader at the Heerenschürli.

Emergency starter Harry Bregy got tagged for three runs in the opening frame as the Flyers jumped out of the gates with four singles and a double before Bregy recorded his first out, striking out Stefan Koller. It was Bregy's 300th strikeout as a pitcher in the NLA.

After that, Bregy shut out the opponents in the second, third and fourth innings, escaping several jams.

But things fell apart in the fifth as Bregy didn't manage to retire any of the five batters he faced.

Thomas Burger came on to relieve, but his stuff was erratic and had to endure his worst outing of his career. He faced 12 batters and didn't manage to retire a single one of them, hitting three of them with a pitch and unleashing three wild pitches.

All 12 of those batters scored, and Francisco Colindres had to be summoned to try to put an end to the misery. He did so but not before two more runners scored on a bases-loaded walk and a passed ball.

The Challengers' bats were silenced by Koller who threw a complete game two-hitter, allowing only two runners to reach as far as third base.

The game was called after five innings due to the 20-run double mercy rule.
