Frogs edge Challengers 11-8

The Challengers and Sissach Frogs both scored late, with the Frogs keeping the upper-hand with an 11-8 win in Game 1 of Saturday’s doubleheader.

After six innings, the Frogs led 3-2 after scoring three unearned runs off starter Tyson Robles, while the Challengers managed only two runs off Tobias Imboden on RBI-singles by Robert Sedin and Carlos Nepomuceno.

All hell broke loose for the Challengers as the Frogs put up five runs in the seventh inning on Alex Cruz Tifa’s three-run homer, an RBI-single by Imboden and a run-scoring double play grounder by Nelson Santana.

After the Frogs extended their lead to 9-2 in the eighth inning on Taylor Eichhorst’s RBI-double, the Challengers started their rally in the bottom half of the inning.

RBI-singles by Gabriel Holguin, Thomas Blank and Robles cut the deficit to 9-5, and Nepomuceno’s two-run triple - his first in his career - capped a six run inning, bringing the Challengers within 9-8.

But the Frogs scored two more in the top of the ninth off reliever Blank to which the Challengers weren’t able to answer anymore.

Game notes
Jesus Martinez collected his 200th hit in the NLA with the Challengers when he singled in his first at-bat in the second inning. …Nepomuceno struck out for the 50th time in his NLA-career as he went down looking in the first inning.
