Flyers score early, hold on to 7-3 win

The Flyers put up four runs in the opening inning against the Challengers and took a commanding 2-0 lead in this year’s Best-of-3 Playoff Semifinals with a 7-3 win.

The Flyers sent eight batters to the plate in the opening inning against James Sanders, and four of them scored on five hits and an error.

The Challengers got two runs back in the second inning on a successful 1st-&-3rd double-steal, followed by a run-scoring ground out by Gabriel Holguin.

But the Flyers erased both runs as they scored two of their own in the top of the third for a 6-2 lead.

Devon Barker of the Therwil Flyers was in cruise control mode as he struck out 13 batters and allowed zero earned runs.

David Castillo led the Flyers’ offense with a single, a double, and three RBIs, while Adrian Kaufmann collected a game-high three hits.

Sanders was charged with the loss as he went four innings, allowing six runs – three of them unearned – on nine hits, while also striking out four.

Robert Sedin pitched the final five innings, matching his career-high as a reliever.

Game notes
Carlos Nepomuceno set a new franchise record as he struck out for the 32nd time in a single season.
