Submarines 7, Challengers 4

Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader between the Submarines and Challengers was a little closer, but the Subs still managed to hang on for 7-4 win and their fourth win in the Promotion Round.

Patrick
Patrick Zöllig hit the first triple in the NLB this season for the Challengers.
As in Game 1, the Subs took an early lead, this time 5-0 through the first three innings. They connected for five hits off starter Harry Bregy and profited from three errors by the shaky Challenger defense in those first three innings.

But the Challengers came alive in the top of the fourth as Stefan Eisenring singled, Oliver Labhart reached on an error and Patrick Zöllig followed with the first triple of the Challengers this season. Both runners scored and Zöllig eventually scored on Christian Bülte's sac fly to center field to cut the lead to 5-3.

The Challengers added one more run in the next inning as Bregy scored on Eisenring's third hit of the game, an RBI-single to left field.

The Subs got two runs back in the bottom half of the fifth for the final score of 7-4. In the sixth and seventh innings, Subs starter Schiavo struck out four of the last six Challengers he faced.

Tobias Siegrist struck out in each of his three at-bats. Prior to the game, he fanned just once in 59 at-bats this season.

Oliver Labhart committed three errors that led to two unearned runs.

Bregy (4-1) was credited with his first loss of the season, pitching a complete-game nine-hitter and giving up seven runs - four unearned - and two walks while striking out six.

The Challengers' NLB-team has one final doubleheader against the Zurich Lions left that will be played on October 11.
