The Athletics scored first on Biewenga's solo homer off Patrick Zöllig, but the Challengers tied it in the bottom half of the first inning on Tobias Siegrist's RBI-single that scored Christian Bülte.

The Athletics scored one more run in the second inning, but the Challengers again reacted quickly, this time scoring three runs, one of them unearned, on a bases-load walk to Harry Bregy, Bülte's RBI-single and Zöllig's sac fly to deep center for a 4-2 lead.

Zöllig (2-2) managed to keep the Athletics scoreless through the next two innings and his offense provided him in the meantime with a 6-2 lead, thanks to another bases-loaded walk to Bregy and Benny Räber's RBI-single in the bottom of the fourth.

After that, the two teams combined to score just one more single run in the remaining 2½ innings for the final score of 6-3 in the Challengers' favor.
