Challengers win 9-7 after 4 1/2 innings

The Challengers hosted the Chur Braves for a rematch of May 28th's game that the Challengers won 19-13.

This game was much more equaled, with both teams going neck-to-neck. But the rain put a halt to the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, and the Challengers escaped with a 9-7 victory.

The Challengers opened the scoring in the bottom half of the first frame as Harry Bregy scored on a fielding error by second baseman Mikulandra. Starting pitcher Patrick Zöllig gave himself a lead to work with by hitting a two-run single for a quick 3-0 lead for his team.

The Braves got one run back on an RBI-single by Rinderer, but Zöllig managed to retire the next three batters in order.

The Challengers then added two more runs on Patrick Bosshard's two-run single to extend the lead to 5-1 after two innings.

Entering the bottom of the next inning, the Challengers still held a 5-3 lead, but went on to extend it to 8-3 on a two run-single by Bregy, and an RBI-double by Tobias Siegrist.

Zöllig started the next inning, but wasn't able to retire any of the first four batters he faced. He handed the ball over to Bregy who allowed just a sac fly to Demarmels that cut the Challengers' lead to 8-6.

The Braves added one more run in the top of the fifth to trim the lead to 8-7, but by that time, the rain was already coming down hard, and since half of the game was completed after that, the game was official and could be called by the officials.

But the Challengers stepped one more time to the plate and added their final run on Joe Cox' RBI-single for the final score of 9-7.

After that, the umpires called the game due to heavy rain.

Game notes: Bregy pitched two innings in relief to earn his fourth win of the season.
