Black Knights upset Challengers 15-5

After Saturday's 23-13 win against the Therwil Flyers, the Challengers' NLB-team had to play the Wettingen Black Knights the following day, and lost 15-5 in seven innings.

Although the Challengers started strong by scoring three times in the bottom of the first inning on RBI-singles by Patrick Zöllig and Wolfgang Laabs and a run-scoring ground out by Oliver Labhart, the Black Knights weren't intimidated and scored five runs of their own in the top of the second inning for a 5-3 lead.

Starter Labhart (0-1) wasn't able to throw the ball past the usually weak Black Knights and allowed four hits in the second inning, but also was let down by his offense as it committed two errors in that inning.

The Challenger offense managed to score once in the bottom half of the inning to cut the Black Knights' lead to 5-4, but Black Knight starter Meier silenced the Challengers' bats after that.

He didn't allow a baserunner until Labhart's single to lead off the sixth inning.

Meier even retired the next six batters to shut the door and allow his team to wrap up the game after just seven innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.

He finished with just five runs given up - one of them unearned - on six hits and two walks, while striking out four.

Labhart on the other hand gave up 12 runs - two of them unearned - on 10 hits and five walks, while striking out three. His ERA rose to 10.50 in the process.

Game notes: Harry Bregy remained hitless for the first time this season, but nevertheless leads all NLB players with a .500 average and 23 stolen bases. ...Zöllig was the only Challenger with two hits and two RBI's.
