Challengers lose 17-7 to promoted Moose Junction

Even trying a new pitcher on the mound didn't bring an end to the Challengers' NLB-team losing streak.

O.Deck
Oliver Deck started Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the promoted Olten Moose Junction, but failed to get a single out against five batters he faced en route to a 17-7 defeat, extending the team's losing streak to four games.

Oliver Deck walked four batters and allowed a single that accounted for five earned runs in his first start of the season.

Oliver Deck was relieved by Orlando Balbuena who pitched the next three innings, allowing eight runs - three of them unearned - on five hits and two walks, and also striking out three.

But the defense behind Balbuena's pitching didn't help him much as it committed four errors during his appearance on the mound. The Challengers finished with seven errors, just one less than the season-high eight errors in Game 7. Claudio Deck alone had three blunders, giving him six on the season.

The Challengers managed to score big in the sixth inning. Four runners crossed the plate on Claudio Deck's RBI-single, and back-to-back doubles by Adrian Kämpfer">Adrian Kämpfer and Willy Schaub.

Schaub also pitched the final three innings, allowing four runs - just one of them earned - on four hits and one walk while striking out two.
