Challengers finish season with 13th consecutive loss for 2-18 record

The Challengers' NLB-team must be happy that this season is over with.

After losing the final game 16-3, the Challengers' 2-18 record is by far the worst in franchise-history, topping the previous mark of 4-11, set in 1997.

The game was close throughout the first four innings, but the Unicorns shifted into a higher gear in the fifth inning, scoring seven times for the final score of 16-3.

Claudio Deck pitched five innings in relief, giving up 10 runs - five of them unearned - on nine hits and four walks while striking out only one batter. He nevertheless won the ERA title with an incredible mark of 19.91.

Willy Schaub, candidate no. 1 for the MVP-title went 1-for-4. He finished first in batting average (.400), hits (20), doubles (9), RBI's (19), runs (21), total bases (29), slugging percentage (.580) and on-base percentage (.531). He also pitched one complete game.

Claudio Deck led the pitching staff with a 1-4 record in 23 1-3 innings pitched, 17 strikeouts and six starts.

The question will be what the goal will be next season. Measures have to be taken to make the second team more competitive, so that new players can be recruited to play in the NLA one day.
