Challengers trash Moose Junction 24-4

The NLB-team scored in every inning at least once to trash the Olten Moose Junction 24-4 in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader.

Tobias Siegrist went the distance and allowed no earned run.
The last time the two teams met, the Moose Junction won 28-4 on July 21, 2001, but that seemed a long time ago.

Starter Tobias Siegrist's pitching, combined with a high-octane offense provided more than enough to reverse the fortunes of the two teams.

Siegrist pitched a complete-game four-hitter, allowing four runs - all of them unearned - on four hits and five walks, while also striking out nine.

The game was called after two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning due to the double-mercy rule.

Siegrist struck out four of the first six batters he faced in the first inning, but catcher Willy Schaub dropped twice a third strike to prolong the inning in which the Moose Junction eventually scored three runs.

But the Challengers wasted no time and scored three runs by themselves on rookie Chris Hardy's RBI-double, a passed ball and a throwing error by catcher Beat Senti.

Claudio had a game-high four hits and also scored three times.
Siegrist kept the opponents in check through the rest of the game while his offense kept producing.

Already holding an 8-4 lead, the Challengers exploded for 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth. Four Challengers had two hits in that inning alone, led by Orlando Balbuena's two doubles, and two-run singles by Manuel Schretzmann and Claudio Deck.

The Challengers scored their final six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Thomas Blank had a two-run double, Adrian Kämpfer">Adrian Kämpfer hit his first homer of the season, a two-run shot, and Roger Burger's sac fly ended the game.
