Challengers ride big 12-run inning for win

The Challengers scored a record 12 runs in the second inning en route to an easy 16-7 over the Reussbuhl Eagles.

Ironically enough, neither team managed to score another run for the rest of the game, with relievers Paulino Veras and Dean Scherbaum controlling the opponents’ offense.

Scherbaum picked up his second win of the day, pitching 2 2-3 shutout innings in which he allowed only six baserunners on four hits and two walks. He struck out five.

He was credited with the win in Game 1 by pitching a complete-game five-hitter with 11 K’s.

Oliver Marty, veterans Nick Lehmann and Werner Zingg each collected three RBI’s, and Manuel Schretzmann reached base three times safely with three singles. He also scored a game-high three runs.
