Challengers come up short against Unicorns, again

After losing to the Hünenberg Unicorns 14-1 and 19-4 on July 14, the Challengers tried to get revenge.

But again, the Unicorns had other plans, winning Game 1 7-6.

At least, the Challengers were able to keep the game close, even taking a 5-4 lead after seven innings.

Chris Sochor had two hits, including a double, and Adderly Sarmiento had two singles in those first seven frames.

Starter Simon Saxer was done after three innings, handing the ball over to Willy Schaub who worked the next 4 2-3 innings.

While Wascar Garcia tied the game in the sixth with his RBI-single, Daniele Carrozza's sac bunt even put the Challengers ahead by one run in the next inning.

But the Unicorns followed with a three-run eighth inning that sealed the deal.

They unleashed two doubles, two singles and a walk to chase Schaub, bringing on Nick Lehmann to close out the game.

He allowed no more runs, but his offense couldn't quite catch the Unicorns, anymore.

Schaub scored on Sochor's RBI-single, his third of the game, but Lehmann grounded out to second, with runners on second and first to end the game.

Game notes
Sochor rejoined the Challengers on his trip through Europe, getting a team-high three hits. ...Schaub picked up his first loss since July 22, 2006 against the Zurich Barracudas.
