Challengers shut down by Cards

The Challengers failed to add another victory in Game 2 to clinch the playoff spot, as the C's were shut down 4-0 by the Cardinals.

Both teams exchanged zeros on the scoreboard for the first three innings, before the Cardinals broke the scoreless tie in the fourth. With two runners on base Sandra Stadelmann delivered a RBI-single, that enabled Monica Alnes to cross the plate.

And the Cards put things out of reach in the fifth scoring three more runs to make it 4-0. Kirstin Wolff had a two-run bases loaded single, before Pamela Kellenberger stole home.

The Challengers didn't come through against Alnes, as the C's had only three hits and stranded three baserunners on third in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

The Cards will face the Wil Devils on Sunday, September 8 for the last games of the Round Robin. With a split the C's would qualify for the playoffs, where they would face the Therwil Flyers in a best-of-three semi-final series.
