8Challengers arrive in win column
The Challengers Softball team secured their first victory of the season on Saturday, 11th May defeating the Bern Cardinals 8-7. The bottom of the third saw the Challengers’ bats and base running come alive: Simona Cellar’s hit and under the tag slide, hits and smart base running from Leandra Simitovic, and an over the fence double by Jennifer Montague gave the Challengers an early 6 run lead. However, some top-notch batting from the Cardinals threatened the Challengers comfortable lead, with them returning to score 5 runs in the closing inning. With the tying run on third base, Leandra Simitovic clinched the win for the Challengers with a strike out.
Special mention to Taylor Mc Cants who, from centerfield, threw out a runner at first base, followed by a great throw to cut off Simitovic who threw to Cellar for a tag at home plate.
