Cardinals pitching dominates Challengers in 5-1 win

A 40 minute rain delay changed the day for the Challengers, however, with the Bern Cardinals dominating game 2. Bern’s pitcher, Monica Alnes, quieted down the Challengers’ bats with her rise balls, preventing the Challengers from any hits between the second and sixth frame. Despite hits by Simona Cellar and smart base running from Ziegylou Wehrli in the seventh inning, the Challengers were not able to come back from the deficit, losing 5-1.

Special mention to Macy Morgan, who, after a long flight from the USA and definite jetlag, was able to put in a very impressive pitching debut for the Challengers. The club is looking forward to the rest of the season with their newest American acquisition.

Game notes
Cellar is riding a 7-game hitting streak by getting a total of four hits in the doubleheader against the Bern Cardinals. Her last game without a hit was on August 19, 2012 also against the Bern Cardinals. ...Cellar lined out to shortstop in her 300th at-bat for the Challengers in the bottom of the fifth inning.
