Flyers score nine unanswered runs to win 9-2

The Softball-Team lost twice against a strong Therwil team on Sunday, June 16 at the Klopstockwiese. The Challengers battled for over two hours, but weren’t able to cash in the runs they needed. The Flyers recorded 12-9 hits but outscored the C’s 9-2, as starter Adeline Glauser pitched in and out of trouble several times, while the C’s batted a dismal 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

Things started well for the Challengers, who seemed to like the sunny conditions, as they opened the score with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Simona Cellar and Ziegylou Wehrli drew a bases loaded walk each to make it 2-0, but the Flyers escaped further damage, recording the last two outs with the bases loaded.

And the Flyers answered right away, as they found the holes in the C’s defense to score three runs on four hits in the top of the second and two runs on three hits in the top of the third frame to build a 5-2 lead.

The C’s tried to stop the bleeding, as they gave the ball to reliever Anouk Lkharrazi. But she allowed three runs, one hit and three walks in the fourth inning, as the Flyers extended their lead to six runs.

In the bottom of the fourth the C’s led off with back-to-back singles from Alexia Zingg and Sandrine Montandon, but Lkharrazi grounded into a fielder’s choice. Zingg was forced out at third base and had to leave the game, as she twisted her left ankle trying to reach base, while Glauser and her defense get the side to end the inning.

The C’s also had two runners on base in each of the last three innings, but the Flyers sent them back scoreless each time en route for a 9-2 win.

Leandra Simitovic, Macy Morgan and Simona Cellar had two hits apiece for the Challengers, while Lena Gfeller went a perfect 4-for-4 for the Flyers.
