Barracudas defeat Challengers 7-4 behind strong pitching and power hitting

Mariah Jameyson hit two home runs, including a three-run inside-the-park shot, to lead the Barracudas past the Challengers 7-4. Winning pitcher Reed Pi. struck out eight batters in a complete-game performance without issuing a walk.

The Barracudas secured a 7-4 victory over the Challengers behind solid pitching and key power hits. The Barracudas took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Ines Dübendorfer laid down a sacrifice bunt that brought home Andrea Brändli, with Mariah Jameyson also scoring on a fielding error. The Challengers tied the game 2-2 in the top of the second inning as Carmen Lutz-Demetz and Marianne Martina Aellen both scored on separate defensive errors. The Barracudas swiftly regained the advantage in the bottom of the second inning when Jameyson hit a three-run inside-the-park home run to drive in Chiara Perisset and Brändli. The Challengers cut the deficit to 5-3 in the third inning after Simona Cellar doubled and scored on an error. Pitching dominated the middle innings until the bottom of the sixth, when Brändli stole second base and scored on a catcher error. Jameyson followed with a solo home run, her second of the day, extending the lead to 7-3. The Challengers added a late run in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI double by Kirsten Rene Schmidt that brought in Cellar, but Reed Pi. closed out the game to earn the win. Schmidt Ki. took the loss for the Challengers, allowing three earned runs over six innings.
