Romang named MVP

Michel Romang received the 1st League-Team's MVP award at the General Assembly on December 1. Romang batted .375 with 10 RBI's and a .516 on-base percentage and tossed 3 complete games and fanned 23 batters in 25 innings pitched, earning him also the Best Pitcher award. Torbjørn Olsen was credited with the Best Batter award with a .333 batting average and a .489 on-base percentage. Ryan Koley was named best fielder, committing only 4 errors in 51 total chances resulting in a .927 fielding percentage. Andreas Rüdisühli received the Most Improved Player award finishing the season with a .419 on-base percentage, while Jeffrey Pomuceno was named Rookie of the Year.

Winter Practice 2013/2014

The winter practice for the Zurich Challengers Baseball teams will start on October 22 and will take place every TUESDAY from 8pm till 10pm at the Turnhalle Probstei at the Stettbachstrasse 88 in Zurich-Schwamendingen (tram 7 to Roswiesen).

The pitching practice for the Challengers U18-Juniors and the U15-Cadets takes place every MONDAY from 6pm till 8pm at the Turnhalle Schulhaus Schauenberg at the Lerchenhalde 40 in Zurich-Affoltern (bus 80 to Lerchenhalde). On December 23 and 30 there will be no practice.

1st League-Team ends season with two losses

The 1st League-Team didn't manage to arrive in the win column, as the SG TruckStar/Challengers lost twice to the Zürich Eighters Ost on Saturday, October 12 at Dulliken. The Eighters cruised to a 24-3 win in Game 1, before adding a 13-4 victory in Game 2. With these two games the first season ends for the newly founded 1st League-Team with players from the Dulliken TruckStar and the Challengers. Special thanks to the TruckStar organization for the good cooperation throughout the season.

NLB Playoff-Final

 
Die NLB-Teams der Challengers und der Bern Cardinals eröffnen am Samstag, 12. Oktober um 11.00 Uhr in Bern die NLB-Playoff-Finalserie 2013. Spiel 2 der Best-of-three Serie findet am Sonntag, 13. Oktober um 14.00 Uhr im Baseballstadion Heerenschürli statt. Dies ist gleichzeitig das letzte Challengers-Heimspiel der Saison.
 
Die Challengers gewannen ihre Halbfinalserie gegen die Therwil Flyers mit 2-1 Siegen, während sich die Bern Cardinals glatt in zwei Spielen gegen die Sissach Frogs durchsetzten. Die Berner konnten alle vier Direktbegegnungen mit den Challengers in dieser Saison für sich entscheiden, womit sie seit zehn Partien von den Zürchern nicht mehr bezwungen werden konnten. Der letzte Erfolg der Challengers geht auf den 10. Juli 2011 zurück.
 
Das 1.Liga-Team bestreitet am Samstag, 12. Oktober seinen letzten Spieltag der Saison. Die SG TruckStar Challengers trifft dabei auf die Zürich Eighters Ost. Die beiden Teams machen den 12. Schlussrang in der Tabelle unter sich aus, wobei die SG den ersten Saisonerfolg anstrebt. Spielbeginn ist um 11.00 und 14.00 Uhr in Dulliken Untere Ey.

1st League-Team comes close, loses in extra-innings

The 1st League-Team is still looking for its first victory of the season. The SG TruckStar/Challengers lost twice against the Zürich Barracudas on Saturday, September 28, but they are coming closer and closer. After losing Game 1 by a score of 36-11, Game 2 was a nailbiter. The two teams went into extra-innings with a 3-3 tie, but the Barracudas eventually walked away with a 4-3 victory.

NLB-Team finishes at .500

The NLB-Team lost their 24th and final game of the preeliminary round on Saturday, September 14 at the Heerenschürli ballpark. The Sissach Frogs scored six runs in the second and five runs in the fourth innings en route to an easy 16-3 win over the Challengers. The C's opened the score with one run in the bottom of the first inning, but scored no runs after the second frame, as the Frogs cooled the C's bats down.
 
With the first loss against the Frogs in 2013 after three straight wins the Challengers finish in third place with a 12-12 record. They will face the Therwil Flyers in the best-of-three semi-final series. Game 1 will take place on Saturday, September 28.
 
The 1st League-Team lost twice against the Devils/Vikings on Saturday, September 14 at Dulliken. The SG TruckStar/Challengers has been edged 8-6 in the first game, while the Devils/Vikings took also Game 2 with a 22-9 win.

1st League-Team still waiting for first win

The 1st League-Team played four games on July 13 and 14, but is still waiting to arrive in the win column. The SG TruckStar/Challengers lost 4-22 against the Zürich Lions followed by a 3-23 loss against the Zürich Eighters on Saturday at Luzern. 
 
On Sunday the SG TruckStar/Challengers played their first ever games at the Heerenschürli ballpark. And this time they came close, as they lost only 10-13 against the Eighters, before the first placed Lions rolled over the SG, posting a 25-3 victory.

Finally another gameday, but also two more defeats

On Sunday, June 16 something happened, which wasn’t believed anymore by the SG Truck Star/Challengers: it was sunny and 1st league Baseball could be played! Unfortunately the opponents were again the Bern Cardinals III and Lucerne Eagles II, which the SG already played this season – and lost. So, the team hoped for a better outcome this time around. But the results were again not particularly pretty, as both games were lost. The Eagles won 22-7 and the Cards went home with a 18-6 win.
