Thomas Landis earned his fifth win of the season as the Challengers beat the Sissach Frogs 7-5 in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.

Thomas
Thomas Landis recorded his fifth win of the season by tossing a four-hitter against the Frogs.
It was Landis' (5-0) fourth complete game of the season and 22nd of his career, giving him sole possession of 1st place amongst all Challengers. He gave up five runs - two unearned - on four hits and eight walks while striking out seven.

The two teams combined on scoring in the same innings: In the first, the third, the fifth and the sixth.

The Challengers set the pace by scoring first in the first inning on Anubis Benitez' RBI-double.

The Frogs tied it on a wild pitch by Landis that scored Alessandro Traina all the way from third base.

Then the Challengers used a big 4-run third inning to blow the game open. They profited from two defensive blunders by the Frogs and scored three unearned runs as Nick Lehmann reached on second baseman Peter Lehmann's error with two outs and the bases loaded.

After the Frogs scored a run in their half of the third, the Challengers had a comfortable 5-2 lead.

The Challengers went up 6-2 in the fifth on Andreas Mathis' RBI-double but also allowed two in the bottom half of the inning. Second baseman Gary Kochlefl dropped a flip by Saentis Zeller on second base and the Frogs loaded the bases after a base-on-balls to Marco Heim. Mike Klee laid down a two-run single with two outs to cut their deficit to 6-4.

The Challengers scored one more time in the next inning on Makoto Fukamachi's sac fly and Landis allowed just one more runner to score in the last two innings for the final result of 7-5.
