Challengers romp Subs 31-8

The Challengers jumped on Submarines pitchers early in game 2 and won it in convincing fashion 31-8.

They scored three runs in the first inning, and added 10 more in the second inning by sending 14 batters to the plate. Thomas Landis had two doubles, and Anubis Benitez had a double and a homer in that inning alone.

Starter Hingston lasted only 13 batters and was replaced after Jose Valdez reached on first baseman Von Moos' fielding error with no outs in the top of the second inning.

  
Bryan Shemley hit a three-run homer in the top of the 2nd inning for an early 10-1 lead.
The Subs themselves were held to one run apiece in the first two innings thanks to a fine preormance by starter Roger Brunner. He lasted four innings for his first win of the season by allowing six runs - only one of them earned - on five hits and one base-on-balls.

His offense added two more runs in the third and another six in the top of the fourth inning for a comfortable 21-2 cushion.

At the end of the game, the Challengers hit nine homers, two by Benitez, Valdez and Armin Blickenstorfer each.

Rookie Urs Blickenstorfer went 4-for-5 with four singles in his first full game in the NLA, and leads all batters with a .833 batting average.

Valdez relieved Brunner in the top of the fifth inning and pitched three innings for his first save of the season.
