Challengers stomp Frogs 23-1

The Challengers sent some rookies onto the field in game 2, but the result was even more convincing than in game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Frogs.

Rookie Oli Christen threw a one-hitter in his first appearance in the NLA.
Rookie pitcher Oli Christen pitched a complete-game one-hitter, giving up only Stephan Lüthi's solo homer to start off the second inning. He also walked five and struck out four en route to his first NLA complete game and his first win of the season.

The Challengers provided Christen with more support than he'd have ever needed, getting 25 hits - 16 for extra bases -, and scoring in each inning at least once for a final score of 23-1.

After 2½ innings, the Frogs trailed just 2-1, but in the bottom half of the inning, the Challengers exploded for nine runs, sending 12 batters to the plate.

Starter Philippe Lehmann didn't survive the 2nd inning, allowing the first six batters to reach on a single, a hit by pitch, three homers and a double.

Killer relived and promptly served up Brunner's first homer of the season that put the Challengers ahead 9-1. After allowing two more unearned runs, he finally managed to get out of that nightmare, thanks to a rare 8-6 doubleplay.

Cleanup hitter Jose Valdez continued his torrid hitting, doubling in all of his first three at-bats before homering in his fifth appearance.

Christen balked four times, a Challengers record for a single game.
