Challengers drop Lions 24-4 after six innings.

The Challengers scored in every inning at least once to defeat the Zurich Lions 24-4 in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at the Heerenschürli.

Benny Räber picked up his eighth win in his seventh complete game this season.
Benny Räber started and finished his seventh game of the season, picking up his eighth win in 11 decisions, allowing four runs - two of them unearned - on six hits and six walks, and also striking out nine. It was his second consecutive complete game after lasting just 2-3 innings against the Zurich Barracudas on July 29.

He also added some offensive sparks by himself, going 3-for-4 at the plate, including a two-run double in the second inning that gave his team a 9-2 lead.

The Lions scored first off Räber, but both runs were unearned as rookie Manuel Schretzmann misplayed a line drive by former Challenger Giorgio Szentgyörgyi to enable Kurt Kovac to score from third base with two outs.

Manny Marchant went 4-for-5, including a double and a homer, plus six RBI's, four runs scored and four stolen bases.
But the Challengers came back in the bottom half of the inning and scored three times, and never looked back after that.

They scored six runs in each of the second, fourth and sixth innings.

The Challengers also profited from several misplays by a mix of veteran and young Lion players on the field.

The two former Challengers featured in the Lions' lineup, Szentgyörgyi and Fabian Monn, reached base in five of their combined six plate appearances.

Lion starter Ramseyer was roughed up for 22 hits and 24 runs in his outing.
Every Challenger except leadoff batter Harry Bregy had at least one RBI, and every player except rookie Claudio Deck and shortstop Patrick Zöllig had at least one hit in a 22-hit outburst.

Tobias Siegrist and Thomas Landis also returned to the lineup, contributing a combined three hits in seven at-bats.
